Twin Telepathy: Coincidence, Connection… or Supernatural?
Use Left/Right to seek, Home/End to jump to start or end. Hold shift to jump forward or backward.
Can twins really share thoughts, sensations, emotions—or even something we don’t yet understand?
In this episode of Inquirium, Michael Walker and Steven Dudley explore some of the most compelling stories surrounding twins and extraordinary human connection. From twins who claim to feel each other’s pain in real time, to the famous Jim Twins, separated for 39 years yet found to have lived remarkably similar lives, we look at where genetics, coincidence, psychology—and the unexplained—might intersect.
We also examine the strange case of the Pollock twins, whose story has fueled decades of debate about memory, birthmarks, and possible reincarnation.
Along the way, we look at what twin research has actually revealed about nature versus nurture, where the scientific evidence ends, and why some cases continue to challenge easy explanations.
Are these stories simply remarkable coincidences—or could some connections run deeper than we currently understand?
Question the Unknown.

— What Is Twin Telepathy?
SPEAKER_00There are connections that don't rely on words, connections that seem to exist from the very beginning of life. When something happens to one twin, how does the other sometimes feel it? No matter the distance. On this episode of Inquerium, we explore twin telepathy, real-world accounts, the science that tries to explain them, and the moments that defy reason and refuse to fit neatly into either. This is Inquerium. Hello, friends. Welcome to the second episode of the Inquarium Podcast. I'm your host, Michael Walker, and sitting across from me, more than 900 miles away is my good friend and co-host, Stephen Dudley. Stephen, how are you feeling about today's episode? And be honest, do you think there's a twin out there that you have that you haven't connected with yet?
SPEAKER_03I feel good about it. Uh yeah, I've been told that I look a little bit like Billy Bob Thornton. So I have to live with that.
SPEAKER_00And you guys you guys are about the same age, right? 60? No, no, no, no, no, no. No.
unknownNo.
SPEAKER_03I actually had a lady uh I was following my brother into a bookstore one time. We walked through the coffee shop and the lady was like like my brother was behind me, actually. I walked through and she apparently was looking at me like like with this look of astonishment, and then she looked at my brother and she was like, is that him? Oh she thought I was Billy Bob Thornton. Oh, okay. She was pointing to him. Yeah, she she was point pointing to me, like asking him if if I was him. Uh how old were you with when this happened? Man, I was like how old was I, late thirties? Billy Bob had to be like his late fifties or mid fifties. Right. Yeah. It's like, really?
SPEAKER_00Well, I mean, you do look pretty mature for me.
SPEAKER_03I mean, I'm not saying Billy Bob's an ugly guy, he's not. No. You know, he he's he's a good looking man. Yeah, I mean, we're in total two totally different hell, I think he's a boomer, isn't he? Yeah, yeah.
SPEAKER_00I think he's a boomer anyway. Well, it would be funny if your brother if your brother played along and uh was like, yeah, you want me to introduce him? No, he he he he was just like told her no, it's not him.
SPEAKER_03Really? That sounds like your brother.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Uh what about doppelganger? Do you think you there's another one of you out there somewhere?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I've had some people say uh that there are people God, there was a time where someone told me that they thought I was someone else, and I looked just like 'em.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I get that all the time. Uh I mean, I must have lots of doppelgangers out there because I can't tell you how many times throughout my whole entire life that people have come up to me and said that they either thought they knew me or they knew somebody that looked like me. And and it doesn't and it didn't matter how I've changed over the years, my age, my weight, my hairstyle, or the lack thereof, I still get people telling me that I look like somebody that they know.
SPEAKER_03You know that that reminds me of uh they say that what what spirits like souls know each other. Oh, right. You know, like I how many times have you had a dream where it's like you're dreaming about somebody, but then you wake up and you're like, that doesn't even look like the person, but that was that person. That that's what that reminds me of.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, all I know is if I I do have doppelgangers out there, or a few of them, I'd really hope that one of them is really wealthy and at some point they decide to share that with me.
SPEAKER_03That'd be nice.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I mean, at the very least, introduce yourself and we could turn this into some kind of system. You know, like split the workload of life. You know, imagine if you got four other versions of yourself out there, you'd only be working one day a week.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, you could have them uh pay your taxes for you.
SPEAKER_00Well, yeah, I mean, we would have that all worked out, like one of us would do the taxes and the other ones would reap the benefits.
SPEAKER_03Well, it's so one of you would get the short end of the stick, but maybe you could make a deal you where you could just trade out, you know.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. I like to be one that doesn't do the taxes though, but Well, that's not fair.
SPEAKER_03Kind of mean, but whatever.
— When Normal Twin Similarities Get Strange
SPEAKER_03Continue.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, fair point. Um, well, we'll save the doppelganger discussion for another episode. Today we'll be focusing on something just as fascinating and far more personal, and that's the supernatural connection between twins and the phenomena that described as twin telepathy. Now, before we get into the stranger cases, it's worth starting with stories almost everyone has heard of about twins. Twins who call each other by the same name, twins who show up wearing the same outfit without planning it, twins who finish each other's sentences or say the same thing at the same time. On their own, these moments are easily explainable, right? Shared genetics, shared upbringing, shared habits, shared taste, and of course we can't completely rule out coincidence.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's like uh people who have the same sense of humor, eat the same foods, watch the same shows. You could kind of throw that under the umbrella of like two people who become fast friends, best friends kind of thing. So eventually things like that will uh would overlap.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, and then and that you're right, it doesn't just apply to twins, right?
SPEAKER_03It doesn't mean it's like supernatural either, you know.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. So and that's the important starting point. Most twins' behavior isn't strange at all, or it's interesting, yes, but in fact, research has shown that identical twins, especially those raised together, tend to develop very similar preferences, routines, even decision-making patterns. So when those small overlaps happen, they're not all that surprising. But once you accept that, the question changes, right? What happens when the similarities don't stop there? What happens when the connection starts to go beyond shared habits and do something harder to explain? In some cases, twins who were separated at birth, raised in completely different families, still end up living strangely similar lives. Not just personality traits, but specific choices. And the same hobbies, the same types of jobs, even similar habits, routines, and preferences. Some grow up in different cities and with no contact at all, and still end up making eerily similar decisions throughout their lives.
SPEAKER_03When you're talking about their choices. Like I can see if you have the same genetics that you would do certain things when you start getting into like I mean, I guess that that's like how you think would fall under that umbrella, your genetics influencing that, but still that that's kind of far-fetched.
SPEAKER_00Right. Yeah, a choice is a little bit different than liking the same color or each other's sentences or something like that. Right. So, yeah, and what makes it so interesting is that these cases have actually been studied. Researchers have found that even when you remove shared environment completely, identical twins can still show striking similarities. And in one case, those similarities didn't just show up in behavior, they showed up in lives that unfolded almost identically in ways that defy logic. And we'll come back to this later. This is a little teaser. Now, the next kinds of stories that we hear most often about twins move into something very different, not shared habits or lives, but shared experiences. Twins who claim that they felt something happen to the other in real time, a sudden pain with no clear cause, a sharp feeling in the chest, a headache, a sense of physical distress. Yeah, you hear a lot of that, a lot of stories like that. Yeah. And then later they found out something actually did happen. You know, there's an injury, an accident, a medical event. And in some of these cases, the timing lines up perfectly.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, it's where it starts feeling a little bit different. Now it's not just a coincidence, it's it's like a physical thing's going on. That's
— Crisis Telepathy: Feeling a Twin’s Pain
SPEAKER_03pretty interesting.
SPEAKER_00Exactly. Yeah. And these are the stories that get excited the most when people talk about telepathy. One twin suddenly feeling pain at the exact moment the other is hurt. Now, there are still possible explanations, right? Stress responses, subconscious awareness, the way memory fills gaps after the fact. But even in those explanations, some of these cases are hard to ignore. Now these next three cases come from the Journal of the Society for Psychological Research and a paper titled Identical Twins and Telepathy by researcher Guy Lyon Playfair. They represent some of the more extreme anecdotal examples of what's often called crisis telepathy, moments where one twin appears to physically or emotionally experience trauma occurring to the other from miles away. Collectively, these accounts become the inspiration behind this episode's theme song. Coincidentally, one of the most striking accounts was described by a woman named Alice Lamb from Springfield, Illinois. In nineteen forty eight, Alice suddenly felt what she described as a violent blow to the left side of her body, followed by intense pain. She collapsed from her chair and reportedly cried out, Something's happening to Diane before passing out. At that very moment, nearly 70 miles away, her twin sister Diane had been involved in a serious train accident, suffering fractured ribs and a concussion, and according to the report, Alice's pain and physical discomfort continued throughout her sister's recovery. In another case reported in 1975, a hospital worker suddenly experienced severe pain in her left leg. Shortly afterward, bruises reportedly appeared across the left side of her body. At that same time, her twin sister had been involved in a car crash nearly four hundred miles away. But perhaps the most tragic account in the paper came from a woman named Joyce Kerminsky, the non-twin sister of these two women that were involved. According to Kerminsky, one of the twins awoke during the night, suffering unbearable chest pain. An analyst was called, but unfortunately she died on the way to the hospital. At nearly the same moment, her twin sister had been involved in a head on car collision in which her chest had been crushed, and she too died from her injuries. The report states that the timing of the two deaths appeared to, and I quote, had been simultaneous. Stories like these suggest that this isn't just an isolated incident, but maybe a pattern of similar experiences reported by twins throughout time. So now we're moving on to a whole new level. Twins not reporting a feeling, but claim they know something was wrong. Recognition, a close cousin to telepathy. In these cases, twins describe sudden overwhelming sense that something isn't right, a feeling of dread, anxiety with no clear cause, and later sometimes minutes, sometimes hours or days they find out something actually did happen. An accident, a medical emergency, a moment of real danger.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, so that's like the catalyst for connecting in a different way, like a whole new level of awareness.
— When Twins Just “Know” Something Is Wrong
SPEAKER_00Yeah. It's a it's a h it it's kind of a like its own realm, uh, so to speak. And that's what makes these cases stick with people. It's not just a reaction, it's a sense of knowing before the information is shared. And there are even cases involving well-known individuals that this has happened to. Like in 1975, Ross McWitter, co-founder of the Get His Book of World Records, was assassinated in London. His identical twin later described having a strange sense that something was wrong around that same time, before he had even been told what what had happened. Now again, these are retrospective accounts, right? And they rely on memory, and memory isn't always reliable. As we both get older, we we can attest to that. But the pattern is consistent. Stories of twins waking suddenly in the middle of the night, overwhelmed by fear, anxiety, sense of dread. Once you later learn the other twin was experiencing something traumatic at that exact same time. These aren't vague impressions, they're real emotions that these twins are experiencing, you know, fear, sadness, and panic. And stories like this have been reported for decades. And in many of these cases, the timing is what stands out the most. Now, to this point, we've been talking about patterns, trends, and common well-known twin experiences. But what happens when you take a closer look at individual cases? When you stop looking at
— The Jim Twins: Separated at Birth
SPEAKER_00the patterns and start examining the details. Because there are a few cases, real documented cases that don't suggest a connection. They force you to really question how far that connection goes. And that's where we're going next. Now, before we get into this, uh the first story isn't really about telepathy per se, but it's one of the most famous and unsettling cases ever documented when it comes to twins, genetics, and how much of who we are might already be written before we're even born. And this is the story I tease earlier in the episode. So around 1940, in Ohio, identical twin brothers were born and separated at three to four weeks old. They were adopted by two completely different families. Both families decided to seal the family records, which was standard practice, and I believe is still standard practice. Both brothers grew up knowing, at least in some form, that they weren't alone, but one of them learned early on that he had a twin brother, while the other one was told a similar story, but that the other twin had died at birth. So for nearly thirty-nine years, the two boys lived completely separate lives, just forty miles apart from each other, one in Lima, Ohio, the other one in Piqua, Ohio, close enough that they could have visited each other in under an hour if they had known about each other. So that all changed in 1979, one of the brothers decided to dig into his adoption records. A letter was sent to the other brother by the agency telling him his twin brother was alive and he wanted to meet him. And he said yes. Now just think of that for a second. Your entire life you believed your twin brother died at birth, and then one day, thirty-nine years later, you get a message saying, Not only is he alive, but he wants to meet you.
SPEAKER_03You don't really have to imagine that yourself, right? Yeah, a half brother.
— Discovering a Brother More Than 50 Years Later
SPEAKER_00He's uh a year older than I. I won't go into a lot of details at the time uh just for the sake of time, but it really is and was a surreal moment finding out that you have a sibling that you didn't know about more than 50 years later. And if you're listening, hi Paul. So one brother reached out, hi Paul.
SPEAKER_03I'm Steven.
— The Jim Twins’ Remarkably Parallel Lives
SPEAKER_00So uh so one brother reached out, and just days later the two men met for the very first time, and almost immediately they realized they had been living remarkable similar lives, despite being raised by two completely different families. The first oddity they discovered, or maybe confirmed, I think one of the brothers may have known that the other brother, uh, but they were both named James, and they both went by the same nickname Jim. Now that alone isn't not unusual, you know, it's not impossible, but there's more. Both had been chain smokers, reportedly smoking the same brand of cigarettes, Salem. Both enjoyed drinking beer and reportedly drank the same brand, Miller Blight. Both enjoyed the same soft drink, Pepsi. Both suffered from migraine headaches, which according to the reports, both began suffering around the age of eighteen. Both had a habit of biting their nails. Both of them shared the same favorite color of blue. Even their mannerisms were similar. They shared the same slightly crooked smile, and their voices were described as being nearly indistinguishable, having the same tone and timber. In fact, one of the brothers would often prank, call the other's wife, and pretend like he was their husband. Not entirely remarkable given that they were twins, but worth noting giving they lived apart and grew up in different environments for almost forty years. But another interesting fact is they both gained twenty pounds at the same time in their lives. Now their interests also lined up. Both enjoyed home carpentry, woodworking projects, and blueprints. In fact, they both enjoyed working on the same types of wood projects, dollhouses, and small furniture. Growing up, they both took regular family vacations to the same beach in Florida, Saint Pete Beach. Now, Florida has lots and lots of beaches, but somehow they both wound up going to the same beach without ever knowing the other one was doing the exact same thing. They both drove Chevrolets, they both worked in law enforcement related fields, one was a security guard, the other was a deputy sheriff. They both grew up feeling that something was missing in their lives and an emptiness, they described it, and after meeting they reported that that feeling immediately went away. But get this both had a dog that they each named Toy. I I don't think Toy is a very common pet name, is it? I mean, what do you think?
SPEAKER_03No, that's that that's getting weird.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, get this. They both had brothers named Larry. So as interesting as those similarities are, at some point you could argue that a lot of them can be explained. Shared genetics, shared similar environments, maybe not the same, but similar, or even coincidence. After all, these are identical twins, and you would expect some overlap. But the next part will completely blow your mind, Stephen, and move as far as a way as you could possibly get from coincidence, genetics, or environments, at least in my mind, and see if you agree. So with everything else they had in common, they also shared this. They both were married to women named Linda. They both ended those marriages in divorce, then remarried both brothers marrying women named Betty. Wait, there's more. They both had sons and named them James Allen.
SPEAKER_03What?
SPEAKER_00Yeah. At this point, I think you would agree, Steve, this is stopped being feeling like coincidence.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, there's a lot of that. I was like, oh, that could be genetics. But yeah, this is this goes beyond that. I mean, you don't you can't control your wife's name and then your your second wife's name. You can't control it. And James Allen, that was when they didn't know each other.
— Same Wives, Same Sons… What Are the Odds?
SPEAKER_00Right. No, they hadn't met each other. Yeah, that's crazy. Now, it's not uncommon for a father to name their son after them, but they had the same middle name. Yeah, that's crazy. Now they did spell it slightly different. I think one of them had an extra L in there or whatever, but I mean essentially the same name, just spelled differently. Yep. So now because I'm a science guy and I got I got curious and did some rough math on the odds of this sequence happening to two different people. And so assuming w the wives were born around the same era as as the Jim twins, the name Linda had a popularity of about 3.5%, while Betty was around 1.3%. Then if you factor in the average divorce rate in the early to mid 1960s of about 26%, and you multiply those probabilities together for both brothers, you end up with something in the neighborhood of one in 70 million chance. Wow. Now to be clear, that Is a very simplified estimate. It doesn't count for all kinds of variables, like how many Linda's and Betty's were actually living in that part of Ohio, dating patterns, age ranges, or regional name popular. I mean the list goes on and on. But even uh as a rough estimate, it gives you a sense of just how unlikely these sequences really were. Now, when you just add two more factors into that equation, both having sons and both naming them James Allen, the probability dramatically accelerates to a mind-blowing one in three hundred trillion to one hundred and one quadrillion. And when you factor in all the other similarities between the two men, the odds become almost impossible to quantify.
SPEAKER_03So that proves that it's beyond reality. Like beyond the normal reality. It's beyond understanding. That's crazy. I mean, but that to me that kind of proves it. That kind of proves that there's something supernatural going on. There's something the big web that ties us all together is doing something behind the scenes, you know.
SPEAKER_00Well, the fact that they named their sons the same, there could be some telepathy connection there, right? The fact that they both enjoyed making dollhouse furniture. Right.
SPEAKER_03That's very specific.
— The Minnesota Study of Twins Reared Apart
SPEAKER_00Very specific. They both enjoyed blueprints. You know, that's blueprints is I mean, I don't know, I don't know if I've ever met anybody, even including architects who enjoy blueprints. Uh you know. So yeah, it's it does stretch the realm of reality. So when word of their story spread, as you can imagine, it it caught the attention of a lot of people, including researchers at the University of Minnesota, specifically psychologist Thomas Bouchard, who was leading what would become one of the most important studies ever conducted on twins, called the Minnesota Study of Twins Reared Apart, and basically just a study of twins who grew up apart. And the brothers spent a full week there undergoing a battery of psychological and medical tests, always separated, never allowed to compare notes, given the same tasks at different times. And one of these tests asked each brother to draw a picture. Just draw whatever comes to your mind. They were separated, cross-campus, and were being recorded. Later, when they compared the drawings, they were nearly identical. Both sketches of full body men. Now they could have drawn anything, a house, car, but they both drew the same thing.
SPEAKER_03That's pretty pretty bizarre. That that would make me think of, you know, they're identical twins that their brain patterns are very similar.
SPEAKER_00Well, and also because we've we've listened to and watched the telepathy tapes, we know there's something else going on there.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, but but I would still say that it could possibly be the fact that they're genetically so identical. Just that one thing, though. When you're talking about the context of all those things being put together, that that makes it basically impossible. That's different.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Well, yeah, I can see what you're saying, but they literally just handed a piece of paper and said, draw whatever comes to mind. Right, that's pretty weird. Yeah. So then, get this. They were each given the same picture and asked them to write a complete fictional story with a beginning and an end, using the image as uh inspiration, you know, to write a story. And uh later, once again, when they stories were read, they were nearly identical. Wow. Wow. Now, one of the brothers commented saying it was just like the same person taking the same test twice. I mean, that they're all close, that's a strange feeling. So even the brothers felt like this was just a really strange phenomenon.
SPEAKER_03Yeah. Dang, that is super weird.
— What Twin Research Revealed
SPEAKER_00Yeah. And as you can imagine, the twin brothers became the study's most famous case. In fact, at the time, there were only seventy-eight known cases of twins being raised separately, and even then, only a handful that were raised by non-family members. And reportedly the gym twins were separated the longest amongst all the twins that they were tested. So for years, they were studied, their personalities, habits, intelligence, behaviors, analyzed to answer the questions. How much of what makes us is genetics and how much comes from environment. And the findings were groundbreaking. Identical twins, even when raised apart, showed striking similarities across intelligence, preferences, and behavior. But even among those cases, the Jim twins stood out. Now their story quickly became a media sensation. In fact, they appeared on the Johnny Carson show. And I I have a strong recollection of watching that episode as a kid and being blown away by it. And uh I don't know if you remember that them being on TV or not, Stephen.
SPEAKER_03No, I don't. I don't remember that.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. Which is kind of remarkable is because a lot of times throughout my life, we didn't even have a TV. We were so poor. But uh I do remember watching that episode and kind of being blown away by it. And you know, of course, they were featured in major news outlets across the country and so forth. But after the headlines faded, the relationship between the two brothers still continued. They stayed in contact, they visited each other regularly, shared their hobbies, spent time together as brothers, making up for nearly four decades about being apart. They even began taking family vacations together to the same Florida Beach, St. Pete Beach, and researchers and journalists, psychologists have all verified the core facts of the case, and it they appear to be undisputed. It appears to be all factual. And one of the most well known twin studies in history. So what does it mean? Is it a coincidence? Is it genetics? Or is there something deeper, something we don't fully understand yet? How do two people live nearly identical lives without ever knowing the other existed? That that's a profound question. Now, both Jim Lewis and Jim Springer lived full lives after their reunion. Jim Springer passed away at the age of eighty in twenty nineteen, and Jim Lewis, as best I could tell, is still living, which would put him around eighty-seven years old. But their story still remains one of the most compelling real-world examples of just how strange and powerful the human mind can be. And maybe just maybe a reminder that some connections run deeper than we think or fully understand for that matter.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, I with certain stories like this, it makes me uh think that there's some like I mean, I guess with all the stories, there's these little clues that help us unlock the secrets of the universe, you know. And I think that that that this is one of those cases where it's like, oh, there's something going on here that can help us really understand what's going on in the universe. You know, if we can study it more and really kind of figure it out, you know. Because some of this seems like it's it's tied to the physical and some of it s feels like it's tied to the non-physical, but maybe those two things are not so disconnected like we think. You know. Maybe there's some kind of you know, there's like one piece to a giant big puzzle. Yeah, and it's not there's not this duality thing, you know. They're not as separated as as we believe. Which they kinda I mean, that's kind of admitted, you know. Like, you know, we go all the way down to atoms and then uh there was a book I forget what it's called, the the Tao of uh the Tao of Physics, I think, where they're talking about, you know, beyond the the particles, that there's a web that ties us all together. So nothing's really physical anyway, but just makes me think that you know, this is one of those stories where it's like, ah, there there's some kind of secret here that we need to figure out because it would really help us out.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, another common theme is wavelengths. How you know we have light waves, sound waves, and you know, there's maybe other frequencies, other types of waves that we don't know about or don't fully understand, um, that can all be connected. You know, vibrations is another big thing that comes up a lot, how every even you know the smallest atom is vibrating, and we all have frequencies and and somehow we're connecting in that's in that way.
SPEAKER_03This also kind of reminds me of uh you know, we're thinking about this, you know, the the thought thing, the unseen, somehow they connect with their thoughts, but this just makes me think of this and I'll briefly mention it. Uh I forget what it's called, but I'm gonna research it and find out, and maybe we could do it for a future.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, we can leave it, we can leave it in the comments.
SPEAKER_03But but there is some uh uh there's a scientist who's working on, and I think he inherited the science. But there it's uh basically they discovered that when the human body forms, you know, we have our genetics. What are the cells that are are called whether they stem cells before they become whatever else it is that they're gonna become? Well, they found that there's actually some kind of, and I'm just gonna call it like this electromagnetic blueprint that it it forms, you know, the hand, it it's kind of like a guide for the cells to grow into, is the way I look at it. It's like a suit that the the body grows into. And they even the face, they said, the the the pattern of the face, and somehow they're able to like not photograph it but but get an image of it. They said it actually looks like a face. Wow. So they're starting to figure things out. That hey, this is it's that's a non-physical thing, as we you know, would call physical, but it it's like this relationship between that and the physical cells doing their part, but this blueprint has a huge role. So there's we're starting to get there. Yeah. Like all these little things we're unlocking the secrets of the universe, you know.
SPEAKER_00Well, I would love to hear more about that. So if you decide to do some more research on it, maybe we could do a an episode on it. Yeah. Sounds good. I mean, I mean, it's clear that there's connections, you know, all types of connections, and what if those connections don't just shape how we live, what if they carry over to something else entirely? So this final case that we're gonna discuss, we'll be covering in this episode, doesn't just challenge coincidence or even genetics, it challenges something much bigger, and it's one of the most debated and unsettling stories ever tied to this topic ever
— The Pollock Twins: Reincarnation or Coincidence?
SPEAKER_00told. And this takes place in 1957 in a small town in England where two young sisters, Joanna and Jacqueline Pollock, were killed in a tragic accident. They were just eleven and six years old. A car lost control and struck them as they were walking to church one day. Now their deaths were sudden and devastating for their family, and it seemed to hit their father, John Pollock, especially hard. And because like most people yeah. I mean, we both have children, so it it's it's something you don't even want to imagine, right? So unlike most people, John believed his daughters would come back after their death. So about a year later, coincidentally, in 1958, John's wife, Florence, gave birth to twin girls. They named them Gillian and Jennifer. From the beginning, John believed these were the same two daughters returned. But Florence, his wife, however, didn't really share that same belief, at least not initially. And for years nothing seemed unusual or strange. The girls were just normal children. But then things started to happen. As the twins began to grow, they were given a box of old toys, items that had belonged to their older sisters, Joanna and Jacqueline, toys that had been packed away before the twins were even born. And according to their parents, the girls didn't just play with them, they recognized them. They would reportedly pick out specific toys and say things like, Oh, that's mine, not guessing or asking, just stating it as fact. They would correctly identify which toy belonged to which sister, assigning ownership in ways that, according to the parents, lined up exactly with the deceased children, and in some cases they even referred to the toys using names or associations tied to the other sisters. Details they were never directly told or would know about. And it didn't stop there. It didn't stop with objects. There were also reported moments where the twins seemed to recall events, fragments of memory that didn't belong to them. They would make statements about places they had never been or describe situations tied to their sisters' lives before the accident. At times they spoke about their other life using language that suggested continuity rather than imagination. Now it's important to say that these are reported accounts, primarily from the parents. There were no recorded, you know, they weren't recorded real time and they rely heavily on memory. But the consistency of these reports is what keeps the case alive. One of the most striking claims involves recognition of locations. After the accident, the family had moved away. The twins were raised in a different area and had no direct connection to the town where their sisters had lived. But when later they returned to that town, the girls reportedly began recognizing it. They would point out landmarks, describe areas tied to their sisters' daily routines, and react to certain locations with a level of familiarity that, according to their parents, didn't make sense. Again, these are claims not independently verified facts, but they're essential to why this case is so discussed. Then there are the physical details. Jennifer,
— Birthmarks, Memories & Fear of Cars
SPEAKER_00one of the twins, was born with distinct birthmarks, one on her forehead and the other on her hip. These reportedly match injuries Jacqueline, the younger sister, has sustained before their death. Jacqueline had a scar on her forehead and a mark on her body in the similar location. So supporters of the case pointed to this as being a strongest piece of evidence, something physical, not just behavioral. But skeptics, of course, argue that birthmarks are common and that connections like this can be drawn after the fact.
SPEAKER_03This is definitely in in the realm of the reincarnation thing.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, it definitely reeks of reincarnation, doesn't it?
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and the the birthmark thing too goes back to other stories. Like where uh there was a guy who was he had like high anxiety, I forget what it was, but he he had a birthmark. I think the the person he said that he was, or I forget the story, but uh they they linked him back to someone who died in the Civil War, and he he had a birthmark uh in a place where that guy was shot. Anyway, yeah, we're definitely in in the under the umbrella of a reincarnation for sure.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, I think I've I've definitely heard those stories before. I maybe saw some documentaries on it. It definitely kind of I got the same feeling when I was researching this that uh this kind of felt like reincarnation. And so then there were their emotional side, and the twins got as the twins got older, they developed strong fear of cars. In some accounts, the car when a car approached, they would panic, cling to each other, and wrecked if they were in immediate danger.
SPEAKER_03Which is common too with reincarnation stories.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. They were like re remember like if they were remembering that they were in a car accident or something. And uh not mild fear, but intense emotional reactions. Now you could argue this this came from their environment from hearing about the accident, but according to some reports, their parents avoid discussing the tragedy in front of them. So again, the question becomes where did that reaction come from? All these details, the toys, the statements, the recognition, the birthmarks, the fears, eventually drew the attention of researchers, most notably uh psychiatrist Ian Stevenson, who studied cases involving reported past life memories in children, which is a whole nother episode. Um I've know I've come across this many times, the past life memory things with children. And he documented that the Pollock twins in detail focus on patterns, what was said, what was remembered, and how consistently these behaviors appeared. But even Stevenson was careful, he didn't claim this was proof of anything. He just documented the case and left it for interpretation. And that's where the case the story sits. On one side you have a collection of detailed, consistent accounts, stories that taken together paint a picture that feels difficult to dismiss outright, and then on the other hand, you have explanations grounded in psychology, parental influence, suggestion, memory reconstruction, and coincidence, and also the honesty of the parents, right? And probably somewhere in between. It's a case that continues to raise questions because whether you see this as a coincidence, influence, or something we simply don't understand yet, the Pollock twins remain one of the most fascinating and unsettling cases ever tied to this topic.
— Could the Pollock Twins Have Been Influenced?
SPEAKER_03So that that does raise a question to my mind, because if I remember correctly, you said that the the father before they were born thought that they were like his other kids coming back.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, you got two things. So before the twins were born, he thought his kids would come back, and then after they were born, he he was convinced that that was his two girls.
SPEAKER_03That makes me wonder is like, hmm, did he have some kind of influence? Right. You know, and then then also the birthmark thing makes me think of I was it just popped in my head when I was talking about that blueprint, you know, with uh you know babies born and the hand has a blueprint that you can't see kind of a thing, and the face and all that. Well maybe we're all talking about memory here and a blueprint, if it's the same soul, maybe that influences the blueprint and those birthmarks are there because there's some kind of you know, it just makes me think of that like there's some something going on that even souls carry that memory over into their next physical life, like physically, because it's in the blueprint.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, not not just uh emotions or memories, yeah, but a physical and even though they're becoming a different person, they still have part of that old person in the blueprint, you know. Right. Something like that. No, and that's a fair assessment as far as the father's concerned. Um that was my first thought as well. I remember watching the documentary on this, and uh, if I could find it, I'll I'll link it in the description so others if that are interested and can can go watch it. But yeah, that's a fair assessment. Yeah, was this all staged by the father? Maybe not even intentionally, but because he was so emotionally distraught that he just had to believe that his daughters were reborn. That's one of the things that makes this draws lots of question marks, and that's why even the psychologists who study this he left it open for interpretation.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, well, it's it's unknowable.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. You know, I mean on one hand, there's tons of tons of evidence, quote unquote, but on the other hand, you could have some unintentional bias from the father at least. It it it is um it is a pretty compelling story though. Yeah, it's pretty interesting because you have And it's not like it's an I and like you said, it's not like it's an isolated case. There's tons of stories of the psychologist was studying past memories of children, you know. I've seen some documentaries on that as well. And I'd love to cover that topic. And um obviously this would be one case that we could discuss further. But yeah, it's it's um interesting stuff. It's one of those things that like many of these topics that we we were going to discuss, there seems to be more questions than answers, which makes it fun and interesting to talk about. And maybe listeners will make their own connections, but we've talked about this, Stephen, that all the things that we've studied over the years, all these phenomena somehow seem to be linked in some way. And you mentioned it before, you know, there's something out there that maybe all these little things or little clues that Yeah, I I'll all connect.
SPEAKER_03And and that's the the thing about this podcast that I want to explore is can we shed some light on how those connections how everything is related, you know, how these all these different phenomena are related. You know, the I I believe the dots can be connected, at least to some degree, and maybe we can't understand it with our left brains, but maybe the access is more like for our right brain. You know, and maybe if we you know, getting back to previous, you know, podcast, we're able to access that more, maybe we can tap into it even more. Some people do. People who are psychic or you know have apparently have these abilities. You know, they're already there, but what about for the rest of us? What if we could do that as a human race? You know, like it was common knowledge that we had this ability, these tools, and we've just like we talked about before, we just forgot how to use it. But the all these things coming together is what really interests me.
— The Telepathy Tapes & a Bigger Connection
SPEAKER_00And as we and we brought this up a few times, but It's because it's so impactful to me, the telepathy tapes. Telepathy in these autistic, nonverbal children and adults and and adults with Alzheimer's, that is like the tip of the iceberg. Many of these children and adults have vastly more abilities, I'll label it, and they all seem to be connected somehow. Um and that kind of opened my mind for the first time after listening to all those episodes, and as more information was revealed and more of the abilities of these nonverbals were revealed, it started to connect some dots for me that maybe I hadn't considered before.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and you know, we'll get into a podcast on the telepathy tapes uh later on, but I I'd like to say it's because people had the guts to to do actually really good testing. They they actually because it's kind of a you know a hush-hush kind of thing with science. You know, they don't want to go there because they don't want to ruin their reputations, but fortunately there are scientists who who will do it anyway, maybe maybe behind closed doors, and that's fine, but they they do some really impressive testing. Yeah. And and that's what what struck at home with me is that oh, they really went to great lengths to make sure that this is not nonsense.
SPEAKER_00Right. Controlled experiments as much as you can.
SPEAKER_03Yeah, and and they were pretty impressive. I mean, if if what they were describing is what they did, it was it's impressive. And it's yeah apparently right in our face. Like beyond twenty-five percent, beyond thirty percent. You know, we're talking about like ninety-five and a hundred percent. Often a hundred percent. Yeah, and that's multiple times over and over again, back to back. So that that's what makes it the telepathy tapes interesting to me.
SPEAKER_00I'm not sure exactly which episode yet we'll be talking about those, but we'll definitely keep you guys informed on when those are about to be launched.
SPEAKER_03Um, and if you if you if if if people want to just go check it out, by all means, you know, I think we mentioned it before, but go check out the telepathy tapes, listen to that that podcast, it's
— Final Thoughts: Coincidence, Connection… or Supernatural?
SPEAKER_03really good.
SPEAKER_00Yeah, the first season is basically the them doing all the testing of all the children and adults, and then the second season is more about discussions about what was discovered uh in preparation for the documentary to come out. So that leads us to the end of this episode. Just to recap, today we we moved beyond the lab and into something more personal, the talking of twins, stories of twins who claim to feel each other's pain, sense each other's emotions, and in some cases seem to mirror entire lives without ever meaning. From shared sensations to early parallel choices to the cases of the gym twins, two lives that unfolded almost identically, completely unaware of each other. These accounts challenge something deeper that we don't fully understand, and not just what we know about the human mind, but how we understand connections itself. And while psychological, environmental, coincidental can explain a lot of it, there are still moments in these stories that don't fit cleanly into any one explanation. And that leaves us with the same question. Is this a mind doing what it does best, finding patterns, or is there something more happening beneath the surface? And so, Stephen, I want to ask you again, based on what we discussed today on this episode, from uh rating from one to ten, what is your feeling? Do you feel like twins have a special supernatural connection?
SPEAKER_03Yes. Yeah, I do. Assuming that what what we've heard is is true and tests were done and things like that, I'd probably give it a seven. The the twin thing, I I just I really feel like that there's some kind of breakthrough secret going on there. Almost like a m like a fluke or a one of those little uh mistakes that nature makes, that the universe makes that that gives us an opportunity to to start figuring things out. Because I mean you don't like like you did the the statistics on it, it's like pretty crazy. It's it's a it's impossible. So that's interesting.
SPEAKER_00Yeah. To say the least far beyond like, oh, we finished each other's sentences, we wore the same outfits without coordinating it. That just goes exponentially off into um something more unexplainable. Yeah. And and for me, I would I would say I'd probably rate it around the same seven or eight, yeah, based on what we discussed today. Um I'm trying not to use my previous knowledge because I did go to school with a set of twins, and so I witnessed a lot of this stuff firsthand. But if I'm just going off based off what we talked about today in today's episode, I'd probably be more conservative and say, like you said, like a seven or an eight.
SPEAKER_03Uh I will say I know some twins that are the exact opposite of that. So like they they do not get along, they do not talk.
SPEAKER_00I I know some twins like they don't have yeah, they have different tastes in music, yeah, different personalities, different tastes in yeah.
SPEAKER_03So it doesn't it doesn't mean it's across the board, you know, but yeah, but but you see those twins, like I saw uh I think I saw it on YouTube where this mother had gone into the living room and her twin daughters were on the couch and they were asleep, and they were like yin and yang cuddled up to one another like a couple of cubs. And they were they weren't babies, they were like, I don't know, maybe eight or nine. Like they were that close, that bond. Yeah. Right. Very, very interesting. For sure. And now we want to hear from you. Do you think these twin cases point to something real or is there a simpler explanation behind it all? Let us know your thoughts in the comments. We read them, and we may feature some of your perspectives in future episodes, gives us ideas. If you're enjoying the show, make sure you like, subscribe, and follow. SPEAKER_00And if you wanted to go deeper with us, we've got additional content and behind the scenes material over on our Patreon, patreon.com slash Inquerium Podcasts. And likewise to follow up with what Steven said, if you are a twin or know of twins that have some I wanna label them supernatural experiences or interesting things that happen to you, you know, reach out to us. Who knows? We maybe feature you on a future episode.
SPEAKER_03And as always, this episode featured an original track written and produced by us. If you enjoyed the music, stick around to the end of the episode to hear more.
— Next Episode: Amelia Earhart
SPEAKER_00In our next episode, we shift from the unexplained mind to one of the most famous mysteries in modern history, the disappearance of Amelia Earhart. For nearly a century, no one knew what really happened. Did they run out of fuel, crash in the ocean, were they captured, did they survive? But now new research, recovered evidence, and decades of investigation may finally be bringing us closer to an answer. We're going to break down what we actually know and what was speculation and what recent findings may reveal about her final hours. And for the first time, we may be able to tell the story not as a mystery, but as a reconstruction of what really happened to Amelia Earhart. That one's gonna be good. I can't wait. And once again, thanks for joining us, everyone. Till next time. Stay curious and question the end.
— Original “Twin Telepathy” Theme Song
SPEAKER_01Miles away, but I still knew what was breaking to you. I felt it before the call came through, before the words, before I knew something moved across the line, like your thoughts were crossing.
